BTS, a top South Korean boy band, commemorates the third anniversary of their song "Dynamite," a standout among the group's most iconic hits. This track has shattered records and achieved remarkable milestones.

Their devoted fanbase, known as ARMY, has stood as an unwavering pillar of strength for the group. Let's delve into their responses to three years of "Dynamite."

Dynamite: A blast of positivity

  • Dynamite by BTS serves as their first entirely English-language track. It's also one of the few BTS songs where the members didn't participate in its writing or production.
  • The song was released on August 21, 2020, by Big Hit Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment. BTS is renowned for crafting music that merges deep emotions with catchy melodies, resonating profoundly with a global audience.

  • The songwriters, David Stewart and Jessica Agombar, revealed that they learned BTS was seeking an English-language single through their publisher, Tim Blacksmith. Both songwriters aspired to create an energetic, enjoyable, hopeful, and optimistic song โ€“ a burst of vitality.

  • As the world grappled with challenges during the pandemic and lockdown, BTS aimed to offer something that could uplift spirits and provide solace during trying times, and the song truly hit the mark.

BTS leader RM also shared in an interview:

ย "As soon as we heard it, we thought it was really fun and exciting, a fun and cheery song that wasn't that serious. It just made us feel good when we heard it, We really wanted to share this energy with the fans as soon as possible."- RMย

The achievements

  • Dynamite shattered multiple Guinness World Records, including the record for the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours, the most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours, and the most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.
  • The song maintained the top spot on the Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks.
  • It debuted on Spotify with 7.778 million streams, setting the record for the biggest opening day for a song in 2020.
  • Furthermore, "Dynamite" soared to number one on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl.

  • On August 5, 2023, BTS's "Dynamite" became the first and only song by a South Korean act to surpass 1.7 billion streams on Spotify.

  • On June 5, 2023, the official music video for the song became the first music video by a K-pop male group to cross the 1.7 billion views mark on YouTube.

Let's explore ARMY's response to 3 years of Dynamite:

1. Favorite part

2. Remember?

3. Milestone

4. Dynamite on TikTok

5. The momentย

Dynamite will forever hold a special place within BTS's repertoire, as it emerged as a source of joy during the somber days of lockdown. Just as RM pointed out, the lighthearted essence of Dynamite, coupled with its disco-pop elements that encourage sing-alongs or hum-alongs, significantly contributed to its monumental triumph in the United States, primarily due to its language.
