Christopher Nolan's upcoming Oppenheimer has been generating a tonne of excitement across the world. With the movie all set to have the most explosive response alongside Greta Gerwig’s Barbie this monsoon movie season, here are all the recent updates from the anticipated biopic.
Oppenheimer stars Cillian Murphy in the titular role and revolves around the life of the eponymous American scientist J Robert Oppenheimer, focusing on his contribution to the creation of the US' first-ever atomic bomb. In addition to Murphy, the film features Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr in key roles.
In a first for a non-franchise Hollywood film releasing in India, PVRs in Mumbai have opened bookings for shows well past midnight. Theatres in other major cities are following suit, planning late-night screenings as late as 5 AM for both IMAX and regular versions of the film.
Meanwhile in the National Capital, the film is even dropping a few minutes before midnight on premiere day
This nocturnal rendezvous with Oppenheimer is breaking new ground in the land of late-night cinema.
It will be the first-ever ‘A’-rated Hollywood movie to grace the silver screen after midnight in India.
Previously, only a few UA-rated Hollywood movies, such as Avatar and a few MCU flicks were given the privilege of late-night screenings.
Nolan's decision to tackle Oppenheimer's life stems from a conversation he had with actor, Robert Pattinson, after completing work on his previous film, Tenet. Nolan received a book of Oppenheimer's speeches from Pattinson as a wrap gift, which sparked his interest in the subject matter.
The director used Oppenheimer's story as a metaphor in Tenet, exploring the consequences of scientific advancements. This connection motivated Nolan to delve deeper into Oppenheimer's life and create a film around it.
Nolan is clearly known for his commitment to realism and practical effects in his films, and Oppenheimer is no exception. While most directors rely on computer-generated magic, Nolan prefers to roll up his sleeves and get hands-on with his filmmaking.
This guy really wants to keep it real, and by real, I mean absolutely zero CGI shots in Oppenheimer. This dedication to realism aligns with Nolan's filmmaking style, which often emphasises practicality and authenticity.

But here's the kicker. Oppenheimer is not just a historical biopic. It's got some sizzle too.
A recent report suggests that the film will also include scenes of "prolonged full nudity" featuring actors Florence Pugh and Cillian Murphy while exploring the relationship between Oppenheimer and psychiatrist Jean Tatlock, portrayed by Pugh.
This aspect of the film sets it apart from Nolan's previous works, as it features sex and relationships more prominently - themes that the director has predominantly veered clear off throughout his filmography.
Recently, Robert Downey Jr also shared pictures on Instagram, featuring himself with co-stars Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, and Matt Damon. The photos were taken during an outing in New York City, with the city skyline forming the background.
One of the pictures includes a photobomb by John Krasinski, with Downey Jr teasing a potential cameo for the actor in the film.
As the clock ticks down towards Nolan’s next potential masterpiece, fans wait in eager anticipation for the beloved filmmaker’s latest directorial venture.
