Every time you feel low or want to have a laugh, try watching a video clip of The Ellen Show. You will end up leaving that video with a bit of fun and laughter because of the humorous host Ellen DeGeneres and her antics on her show.
On May 26, 2022, Ellen DeGeneres bid goodbye to her 19-year-old talk show, The Ellen Show, with tears and a few memorable guests. Since the time the show debuted in 2003, it has been a ground-breaking, and revolutionary show filled with entertaining segments where Ellen played pranks on her guests, did heartfelt interviews, set up a platform for promotions, and also did amazing giveaways in an effort to make people smile.
It was also one of the first daytime talk shows to feature an openly gay host, which changed conversations and normalised the LGBTQIA+ representation on TV.
However, after she faced flak for the toxic work culture and the irresponsible behaviour that was meted out to the employees by her managers on the show, she had to bow out as The Ellen Show was not renewed for a new season.
Irrespective of what happened behind the scenes, I was an avid watcher of the funny show and here are the 6 things I'll miss watching:
1. TRANSFORMING TO KARLA KARDASHIAN
Ellen's transformation to Karla always got people tweeting because it was outright hilarious!
In 2015, Ellen dressed up as a fake Kardashian sister, Karla Kardashian, to promote Keeping Up With The Kardashians that Halloween. She repeated this antic a couple of times when the Kardashians visited her on her show. The Kardashians, who have often appeared on the show to promote their own show, have often joked around with Ellen about how she is the fourth sister.
2. SCARING PEOPLE ON TV
Ellen has always made the best memories on her show by scaring her guests. Be it by herself or through her team, she has mostly never failed. Though people have always seen various clips of her guests being terrified, in the end, she just shared the anatomy of a scare as a memorable goodbye.
3. THE VARIETY OF PEOPLE SHE INTERVIEWED
The kids loved chitchatting with her, ex US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle loved doing stuff with her, the guests on her show adored her and the celebs loved her. People loved seeing a variety of guests on her show and how she had fun with all of them. Heck, sometimes she got them all together at the same time!
You might also remember the incredibly talented kids that Ellen hosted on her show and had a fun time with. Brielle, the biology expert; Nate, the geography guy; Xander, the astronomy lover; Noah Ritter, the young man who says everything that is on his mind; and Saatvik Thatipally, the mathematics genius.
4. FUN INSTRUCTIONS
One of Ellen's fun segments was when she would do things that were beyond the expectations of the normal folk. She would do things that you and I would normally never get a chance to do or even comprehend doing. Remember when she instructed Adele to go into a store and behave like a maniac by chopping some lemongrass in a coffee shop?
Or when she shopped for groceries with Michelle Obama and had fun as she behaved like a kid! (Like who gets to do that!?!)
Or when she did something that is perhaps every woman's fantasy: waxing her best guy tWitch on the show!
5. THE 'WHY I DON'T HAVE KIDS' SECTION
Ellen had some fun segments on her show like 'Why I Don't Have Kids', where she would ask parents to send their kids' funniest videos. Since she did not have children and it was relatable to her, she would often use this segment to justify her point of why she never saw a reason in having kids. And truth be told, those videos proved her point too.
6. CHRISTMAS JOY
Ellen usually had a grand Christmas celebration on her show and people especially loved the '12 Days of Christmas' episodes. Things would get super Christmassy, people would receive larger-than-life gifts, and there would be humongous giveaways for 12 consecutive days, thus making it the perfect Christmas for families!
Well, though the telecast clips will always be available to watch, there will be nothing that will beat the happiness of watching Ellen in her element once more.
