Bollywood actor Shraddha Kapoor’s brother, Siddhant Kapoor was detained from a hotel in Bengaluru on charges of consuming drugs in a party. The actor was detained along with five others after their blood samples tested positive for banned substances. The cops had sent the samples of 35 people who were suspected of having drugs.
The police acted on a tip-off, and raided a hotel at MG Road where a rave party was hosted. The blood sample of Siddhant along with five others tested positive.
Siddhant has acted in several movies like Shootout at Wadala, Ugly, Haseena Parkar and Chehre. In the web series Bhaukaal, he played the character of Chintu Dedha.
But he isn’t the first celeb who has been detained on charges of substance abuse.
SANJAY DUTT
The story of Sanjay Dutt is hidden from no one. He himself has been very vocal about his drug addiction which affected his life for nearly 9 years. Even before being caught in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, Dutt was arrested and jailed for nearly five months in 1982.
The actor was caught in possession of illegal substances. After this, he was to US for rehabilitation at a centre in Texas for two years.
FARDEEN KHAN
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had arrested Khan from Mumbai in 2001 on charges of having possession of cocaine. He was charged under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The agency had said that Khan was caught with nine grams of cocaine, a charge Khan denied.
He was arrested along with his friend Nasir Sheikh, who sold him the drugs.
Khan, however was exonerated from the drug possession charge in 2012. He was also granted immunity after undergoing a de-addiction programme at KEM hospital.
MAMTA KULKARNI
Popular actor of 1990s, Mamta Kulkarni was arrested by the Thane Police in April 2016 after her name emerged in one of the biggest drugs rackets in India. A medical substance ephedrine, about 2000 kg of it, was confiscated by Thane Police in 2016.
10 people were arrested and more 7 were absconding in this case, including Mamta Kulkarni. Mamta, who lives in Kenya had moved to Bombay HC in 2021 and sought the quashing of FIR registered against her in 2016.
ARMAN KOHLI
Actor Arman Kohli's connection with drugs came to be known in August 2021, when he was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) from his house located in Juhu, Mumbai. The raid was conducted by NCB zonal head Sameer Wankhede.
The NCB questioned Kohli for a long time and then arrested him. A small quantity of drugs were also found at his house.
