So, Karan Johar hosted a bunch of his close friends, Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Varun Dhawan, Malaika Arora, Arjun Kapoor, Zoya Akhtar and others, on Saturday night, had a great time and posted a video from the party. In the Mannequin Challenge-style video, KJo panned the camera from one guest to another as they stood still — like a mannequin — and posed.
The Internet, however, hasn’t been able to stand still since.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Majinder Sirsa shared the video, accusing the stars of doing drugs. He even called it ‘Udta Bollywood’ — you’ve at least got to appreciate the man, he's gutsy enough to reference a movie, Udta Punjab, that was pegged on the rampant drug abuse in Punjab — a state where SAD rules!
But Congress leader Milind Deora, whose wife was present at the party, was quick to defend her and the entire lot against Sirsa’s claims.
“Nobody was in a “drugged state” so stop spreading lies & defaming people you don’t know,” tweeted Deora.
The video since then has been shared, re-shared and even made it to TikTok, with half its viewers apparently being able to spot alleged cocaine lines on the sofa or wherever else, and the other half unable to see anything — like that blue and black dress.
No, that was white and gold.
You get the drift.
I didn’t see it. Honestly. If the guests did seem a bit high, it could be drinks — lots and lots. Hardly unusual at a party.
Or it could just be what it is — that they weren’t wearing any makeup!
Clearly, we’re not used to seeing celebrities without the ‘celebrity’ on their person. Their eyeliner is so on fleek all the time that smudged kajal stands out — like Deepika’s or Malaika’s. (We look like that on a regular day by 4 PM at work).
Their hair is so full of product usually to make it stay tightly in place that we cannot take it when it’s messy with stray strands falling over their foreheads — like Ranbir’s or Vicky’s. (Our hair looks like that right after we step out of the metro).
And we’re so used to seeing those deadpan stares in the glossies that they look out of place in someone’s home.
That’s all. That’s all that there was. But then, not quite. Because how can we let go of an opportunity to outrage? Especially when there are celebrities involved?
So, yeah, let’s continue the do-you-see-drugs-or-do-you-not-see-drugs game.
It tells you a lot about our social life.
