Rahul Gandhi's "forgotten farmers" tour in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh was a steal. Literally, getting off to an eventful start on Tuesday. Rahul is trying a new way to connect with the farmers this time around, his "khaat sabha" is supposed to be a new take on the traditional village meetings.
Rahul came ready to raise a storm about how "suit boot ki sarkar" led by PM Modi has forgotten farmers in his quest to please the industrialists. But the only thing that was raised at the event were "khatiyaas" by locals who ran away with the new wooden cots after the event got over at the Dudhnath Baba Mandir ground in Deoria.
It was a complete and unexpected pandemonium as soon as Rahul ended his meeting, with locals scampering around, looking to get hold of one of the new khatiyaas set up by the state unit of the Congress for the event.

Here's what happened:
"Modiji talked a lot about farmers and how he intended to help them. But as soon as he came to power, farmers were promptly forgotten," alleged Rahul Gandhi.
"When our government was in power we waived farm loans. This time Modiji has waived over 50,000 crore in loans for his corporate friends. Why not for the farmers too?" he added.
After some more of this, Rahul's speech ended and his entourage took off, leaving 2,000 khatiyaas behind.

The contrast was too much to handle. With Rahul rallying against the "anti-farmer" Modi sarkar in the backdrop of the villagers scrounging for the wooden cots, it was, inevitably, a fun riot on Twitter.
