[Tweet of the day] How a Pakistani shut Chetan Bhagat up

After India's less-than-perfect start at the World T20, and Pakistan's strong show against Bangladesh, a view had gained currency that the India-Pakistan match on Saturday (March 19) would be a disaster for Team Dhoni. Detractors had predicted that Shahid Afridi, who had shown glimpses of his old marauding self in the match against Bangladesh, and his boys would pin Team India down at the Eden Gardens, putting paid to the latter's hopes in the tournament.

But the legion of Team India bhakts found their voice after Virat Kohli played an absolute gem of an innings on a spiteful pitch to script a relatively easy win for India in the end. What India's performance at a rain-soaked Eden Gardens did was that it gave the chance to the die-hard Indian fans to get back at their opponents.

One among them was the controversial Indian author Chetan Bhagat, who tweeted that Pakistan's forefathers would have rued the fact that they had insisted on the Partition of the country. Had they not done that, the Pakistanis would not have had to witness their cricket team going down so heavily to India, Bhagat reasoned.

Sarcasm dripping from every word, Bhagat was also perhaps hinting at India's unbeaten record against Pakistan in world championships. The record is now 11-0 in favour of India.

Bhagat's tweet generated an angry response from a Pakistani fan, who said, that Partition was still better, because it would have been unacceptable to live with somebody like Bhagat.

Bhagat, who had often been in the eye of a storm for his statements, perhaps would appreciate that snide remarks is not the way to gain friends, and least of all, mend strained ties.
