The twin attacks on Belgian capital Brussels has led to innovative shows of solidarity and defiance, both in equal measure. But what stands out as the singular mode of collective bonding is the images of Tintin, the famous comic book character created by cartoonist Herge (George Remi) in 1929, weeping for Brussels.

Many wished that the world most loved investigative reporter were not just a cartoon character, but was a real person who could have unearthed the causes behind these heinous attacks. As it happens, life imitates art more often than not.
