In the yogic system, cancerous cells are described as criminals in society. A few individuals here and there committing petty crimes don’t really affect us, but when they gang up together in one place, something begins to happen. The shift from petty crime to organised crime is a serious problem. Similarly, cancerous cells are present in all our bodies, but a few of them are not going to affect our lives or health in any way. As long as they are loafing around by themselves, it is not an issue. It is only when they increase beyond a certain percentage, that they begin to cause problems for our health.
Why does cancer happen?
Generally in yoga, we look at it this way: when certain kinds of blanks happen in the energy body, either because of a person’s attitude, food, lifestyle, or some other factor, then an atmosphere conducive to the growth of cancerous cells is created within our bodies. If the flow of energy is not proper in a certain part of the body, then cancerous cells choose that particular place to hide and fester.
Cancer is not a disease, indeed it’s your own body working against you – certain cells turn against you. Periodic cleansing of the body plays an important role in keeping this from happening.
Preventing cancer
One of the simplest solutions we have for curtailing cancerous cells in the system is periodic fasting. One aspect of cancerous cells is that they need more nutrients than a normal cell. By denying yourself food on certain days, you can bring down the number of cancerous cells in the body.
One can also consume neem and turmeric paste, made into small, marble-sized balls, on a daily basis. This may not be a treatment for a person who is already diseased; but otherwise it keeps the number of cancerous cells in the body within a certain percentage, where they do not gather against the system.
When inertia levels increase in the body, it restricts energy from entering into the cellular level- areas of the body where energy does not flow freely can become susceptible to cancerous growth. Neem and turmeric when used in combination act as a dilator for energy. Analogous to the dilator used by the ophthalmologist to expand your eye; neem and turmeric also dilate the body in a way that they allow energy to enter and fill up every crevice inside.
Yoga and cancer
There are also certain types of spiritual practices one can do, that can help in correcting and balancing the system. We cannot document or confirm the extent to which these practices have been of help to patients suffering from cancer; but we have definitely seen that patients have recovered quite well. We have seen a few people who recovered from chemotherapy very quickly after doing yogic practices. Doctors who were treating these patients were quite surprised to see their response. There is no way to say whether their cancer went away because of these practices, but I would say, supplementing yoga with medical treatment could definitely benefit the patient.
