Living life on the edge: Here are five spots Amruta Fadnavis should take selfies in

Rules are for breaking, right?

Mankind’s tryst with adventures has always been part of our glorious history, literature and movies — accompanied by a halo. It is only of late, with the advent of the cheapest smartphones, that these haloed superheroes are everywhere; the haloes can be seen on the screen, if the focus is right. And then, one click; and there you are, part of history — either dead and dusted, or alive and pouting!

The latter (not pouting though) happened to Amruta Fadnavis, a banker, a socialite, and also the ‘youngest first lady in the history of Maharashtra’, as claimed by her personal website.

She now has another feather in her cap.

She is an expert selfie-shooter. She can take the perfect selfie sitting on the edge of India’s first domestic cruise Angira. Strong wind blowing through her long hair, apprehensive police personnel apparently asking her to retreat as she has already crossed the danger mark — everything dissolves in the background as she sits on the edge and presses that button.

But Twitter being Twitter didn’t like this exuberant and boisterous side of Amruta and asked, how could she, being a public figure, do this at the risk of sending a wrong message to her followers! Mumbai itself has so many no-selfie zones where you can be penalised for clicking a selfie — if you are alive, of course.

But then, rules are for breaking and yes, for lawmakers and public figures too, it’s just more fun.

So, here we suggest a few selfie ideas for these fun-loving souls. Don’t even think of practising them at home, or without a security blanket like that of Amruta's. Also, all stunts are performed by experts with high-end phones you have to sell your kidney to afford.

In front of a train

Trains are mesmerising — not from inside though. But when they come along chugging, many fearless souls want to take selfies standing right in front of them. We don’t know why it’s such fun. But then, we don’t know many things.

Along with a bear

Fine as long as the bear doesn't see you. (Photo: The Telegraph)

In 2014, this was a craze in the US. Everyone wanted to get “close and personal” with bears in zoos for no reason. You don’t have to go to the US. This is the usual scene in any Indian zoo as well.

With a running bull

There have been deaths and near-fatal injuries. But it seems these are not enough to discourage people from this dangerous pursuit. But then, we don’t see bulls running in India much, and it won’t be appropriate to make a cow run for the sake of a selfie! Right?

Christ, the Redeemer selfie

Proceed with unflinching faith that you will be redeemed.

Selfie with Modi

Easiest one. But the focus will not be on you. Deal with it. (Photo: Reuters)

It will be the easiest one for Amruta, given the success of the government's selfie campaigns, like Selfie with Daughter, for example. It may irk the Shiv Sena a little. But then, who cares for them?

Now, all these enterprising ideas put India on top of a chart; ahead of USA and Russia — that is, the number of selfie deaths. According to a study titled Me, Myself and My Killfile: Characterising and Preventing Selfie Deaths, India has the highest number of selfie deaths. And the trajectory from ‘what’s a selfie?’ to 100 deaths, for example, is astonishing and worrying.

It is unfair to say that the video of Amruta taking a dangerous selfie will encourage other to risk their lives. We have seen her music video with Amitabh Bachchan, with CM Devendra Fadnavis in which she urges us to save our rivers. Have we taken inspiration from them? No, not at all!

So, we won’t be allured by this video either.

In fact, we don’t actually need much inspiration when it comes to committing such asinine acts.

Also, in a world full of hatred and solitude, aren’t we all dangerously in love with ourselves? With the specific angle which can’t go wrong?

We all are.

Now, somebody please show us the selfie that Amruta took, because we have only seen the video — not the selfie yet.
