In the world, or rather house of Bigg Boss, it isn't a fight for survival but a fight for footage. The more drama you create, the more TV mileage you get. It isn't important to perform tasks effectively or do your household chores well.
What's important, however, is to make sure you're ruffling a few feathers, screaming/abusing/crying (take a pick or do all three) and making sure your "act" for the day makes it to the one hour edit televised for the audience.
It's a show that thrives on uncouth human behaviour and each contestant tries to outdo the other in pursuit of the same. And the show's format and creative team helps them out at every step.
While the current edition of Bigg Boss is yet to reach its culmination, it has been over two months now that we have been watching the Bigg Boss contestants. Every single day.
That they've been a major bore for the most of the time is a definite "yes" but there have been a few things that have made an impact. If you're wondering whether the impact has been good or bad then you've never really followed the show's format.
Here's a list of the major highlights (and I'm using this term rather loosely here) of Bigg Boss 9 so far. Feel free to add on to the list if you must.
Rishabh making Kishwar his pet dog
As part of a task when Rishabh was made some sort of a "king" of the Bigg Boss house, just after his wild card entry, he decided to have some "fun" with the contestants. One such game had him making Kishwar his pet as he threw around a bone for her to fetch on all four knees.
This continued for many hours as some of the housemates found it disgusting how a woman was treated like that. Bigg Boss though didn't ask for the game to be stopped.
Priya peeing in the car
As part of a task when some of the contestants were forced to stuff themselves inside a stationary car, with the one who steps out for even a second losing the task, Priya decided to stick inside despite any kind of an emergency. Such was her dedication that even when she felt the urge to pee, she didn't step out and actually urinated inside the car where three other contestants were also sitting. Yes, that actually happened!
Bigg Boss opened the doors for anyone to willingly walk out
Bigg Boss contestants are contractually bound to not leave the show unless evicted or instructed otherwise. In a first, Bigg Boss opened the gates of the house for anyone willing to walk out. This moment arrived after a week full of inane bickering by the contestants and backing out of tasks owing to tiffs with each other.
Surprisingly though, none of the contestants choose to leave, perhaps thinking about the money they would lose. Not even Rimi who had been cribbing daily about wanting to leave.
Rimi being voted as the least deserving contestant
Ever since she entered the house to her last breathing minute inside, Rimi had wanted to exit the show. She even decided to not participate in any of the tasks despite Salman coaxing her to play the game well.
This turned out to be a boon for her though (a strategy she may have planned) as the votes for her kept on piling, with other, more deserving contestants getting evicted.
It wasn't long though before the other contestants figured out her smart move and when asked by Bhai as to who was the least deserving contestant in the house, they all unanimously voted for her.
Keith's comeback after a surprising exit
One of the strongest and most liked contestants on the show, Keith was popular for his calm demeanour and balanced personality. However, owing to a personal emergency at his home, he had to suddenly leave the show with no clear sign if he would come back at all.
Everyone missed him heavily and it was a joyous occasion to see him come back with a bang after a few weeks of absence.
Nora's belly dancing
In an ideal scenario, when any contestant enters the house, he/she should be given a chance to establish their own identity. But in Bigg Boss if you happen to be an attractive woman, you have to establish that. Just like how Nora was asked to show her belly dancing moves which left everyone, including Salman spellbound.
If she had any other skill to show, be rest assured she won't have any opportunity to do that now. Sexism, female objectification etc be damned.
Lust test for Rishabh and Prince
You know that a reality show has stooped lower than its lowest low when in the name of a task, two male contestants have to pass a "lust test" as a skimpily clad woman gives them both a lap dance. Prince and Rishabh had to somehow control their hormones and heartbeats which were being noted by a monitor.
Both tried hard (pun not intended) and somehow were able to control their enthusiasm just a little bit, Prince better than Rishabh. Exactly why did we need to see two grown-up men control their erection on national television? Your guess is as good as mine.
Kishwar spitting in Rishabh's juice
As part of another task when the Bigg Boss house was turned into a hotel, Rishabh was a guest along with Mandana as everyone else had to serve them as staff. And when Rishabh's tantrums got too much to handle for Kishwar, she decided to spit in his juice before serving it to him.
Not a mature reaction by any stretch of imagination. Rishabh never got to know about it though. Thank god for small mercies!
Mandana's illness and quick recovery
She isn't a favourite of the other contestants in the house and Mandana's drama reached its crescendo when she decided to fall ill and quickly recover, all during the timeframe of a task. When the "Naughty Kids" task required Mandana to be the caretaker, she turned sick, literally and went into rest mode. But the next day, she was fit and fine to act as the troublemaking child. How convenient is that?
Salman-SRK reunion
It isn't surprising that one of the major highlights of the show so far has been one involving the host and a guest - that's what happens when the show is rather lacklustre.
The union of Shah Rukh and Salman was a grand occasion (when was the last time you saw these two together on television?) in more ways than one as the two Khans joked, danced, posed and hugged together much to the delight of the audience. Karan-Arjun finally aa hi gaye saath!
